Match Report
This season’s record crowd of 195 for an Essex Senior match turned up at Mile End stadium to witness an entertaining derby game.
Clapton and Hamlets playing some nice flowing football on a super surface in the opening half, with both sides limited to two shots on goal.
The second half was much the same although the hosts did cause a little panic in the Tons defence towards the end of the game with Diagne once again Clapton’s rock in the Tons goal making 2 good saves and claiming many corners.
The best move of the game came midway through the half when Wise burst down the right and crossed low and hard for Omojola to be inches away from gaining Clapton the lead.
However, football was the winner with both teams producing a good advert for the Essex Senior league.
A big mention to a fine gesture from our friends at Hamlets for donating £400 from the gate monies to support Billy Wise’s homeless charity.
Tons Manager Chris Wood commented: “We have played the top two teams this week and not been outclassed, and are very close to the standard required to be around the top of this league. Today’s support for us was amazing, with over 150 Clapton fans singing all game. Makes you proud to be a Ton”.
