The outing for a friendly against Romford FC on Saturday (8 May 2021) provided the Tons with a solid game ahead of their cup match in the Len Cordell Memorial Cup next Saturday, winning 2-0.

First half was a close affair with both teams cancelling each other out, Romford having the better of a couple of half chances. We were overrun in the centre of the park at times, especially towards the end of the 1st half. Score at half-time 0-0.

At the start of the 2nd half manager Bash brought on an extra body in the centre midfield and we took control of the game. Early on Simeon Beckford whipped in a free kick which was spilt by the Romford goalkeeper, and followed up by Lewis Francis to open the scoring.

18 minutes in saw Brandon Rooks go on a good run and play a good through ball to Lewis Francis, which the goalkeeper did well to anticipate, only for his clearance to end up back with Brandon, who after shifting the ball onto his left foot calmly slotted the ball into the goal, from just outside the area. Score 2-0.

Further chances were created and missed by us, which should have been punished, however we were playing some good football.

The defence, which has been the back bone of a lot of our recent good performances, was solid throughout the match, and marshalled brilliantly by our captain Jaffa Hussain, providing us with our 4th clean sheet in our last 5 games.

A well deserved win which gives us confidence going into next week’s Len Cordell fixture against Stansted FC away.
