The Tons started its 2018 FA Cup campaign on Saturday 11 August 2018 with a hard fought match against Woodbridge Town FC, who play in the Premier Division of the Thurlow Nunn League.
Clapton scored first, with Jerome Martelli deflecting the ball into the net from a corner after 25 minutes. Two more goals came and went in the 41st when Eamon Payne’s try was headed on the bar from a corner from Ryan Reed and just before half time when Giovanni Palmer’s shot was well saved by Woodbridge’s goal keeper, Alfie Stronge.
The Tons came out hard in the second half and got the reward, when Ryan’s Reed’s shot on goal was saved but, unfortunately for the Woodpecker’s keeper, rebounded back to within feet of Reed, who made no mistake the second time around. The match now stood at 2-0 to the Tons.
The Woodpeckers’ Carlos Edwards’ shot went wide of the post after 74 minutes but Ryan Keeble’s pass found Callum Sinclair and he made it 2-1. Two more opportunities came and went for Woodbridge Town, but in the 94th minute, with Stronge up front George Bowman’s free kick hit the corner of the net to make it 2-2 and a replay.
