On a hot sunny evening in Essex, Clapton F.C. played Buckhurst Hill on a sun scorched pitch. It was the second friendly of the season and the management team decided to play a large number of keen and enthusiastic trialists to see if there were any budding first teamers amongst them.

Buckhurst Hill, from the Olympian League, started the stronger and it was clear from the off that they were the better organised team and used to playing together. Meanwhile Clapton was mainly a group of little known trialists playing for a place in this season’s squad.

2-1 lead at half time to Buckhurst Hill and, although the Clapton players had shown some promise, they were not co-ordinated enough. As the second half progressed it was clear to all that Buckhurst Hill was in the ascendancy and Clapton was left flagging.

A final scoreline of 4-1 to Buckhurst Hill was a fair reflection of the game. For Jon Fowell and Wayne Seal it was an excellent opportunity to try some new players and see exactly how they performed in a match situation.

The friendlies come thick and fast with Tilbury from the Bostik League Division One North at Home this Thursday 19th July K.O. 7.30 p.m.

Come on you Tons!
